MWR Mission Statement

Morale, Welfare and Recreation provides Fort Irwin with a variety of recreational, educational and fitness programs to support the diverse needs of Fort Irwin soldiers, families and youth.

Our programs range from child care to adult/youth sports programs to auto care to arts and crafts to library services to outdoor programs to aquatics to fitness centers to recreation centers to family programs through Army Community Service to tuition assistance programs through the Education Center.

MWR is extremely respectful of being the "only show in town" for this remote and isolated military installation. Therefore, we strive to provide only the highest quality programming for all residents of Fort Irwin.

Join the Fun (By Sandra Clark, Fitness Coordinator)

Are you ready for summer? I have noticed that more  people are out walking and running trying to shed those extra winter pounds. It happens to us all. We stay in a bit more during the winter, put on a few pounds, then come spring we’re all racing around trying to get them off.

Make sure your workout program is well rounded. You need a mixture of activities to have a successful fitness program. You will need to incorporate three things into your program to make it well  balanced. Cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular fitness, and flexibility are the components you need to achieve overall fitness. To these things add well-balance diet and you will have the building blocks you need for long term health.

Use the following guidelines to help you get the right mix of the three components:

· Cardiorespiratory Fitness: 3-5 days a week

· Muscular Fitness: 2-3 days a week

· Flexibility: 3-5 days

If you are new to working out, or if you are just getting back into the groove after the winter, take it slow! You are more likely to stick with it if you go at a reasonable pace.

Staying fit and healthy will change your life. It will make you feel better, look better and have a better attitude.

Exercise classes are now being held at the Fitness Connection, Building 124. They are open and free to all IAP employees. There’s a full schedule of workout classes for all levels, including lunchtime sessions every day and 5pm classes three days a week.

Grab your towel, grab some water, and get moving! It’s a LIFESTYLE!
